Details:

Summary The Polish DPA has imposed a fine of EUR 2,100 on ‘Stołeczny Ośrodek dla Osób Nietrzeźwych’, a center for people suffering from alcoholism. During its investigation, the DPA found that video surveillance cameras were installed at the facility. The surveillance system recorded both images and sound of the residents. The facility justified the video surveillance system on the basis of purposes related to the safety and health of alcohol-impaired individuals. However, the DPA concluded that these purposes did not constitute a sufficient legal basis and that the center unlawfully processed the residents’ personal data.
